Meet Our Teachers

Athena Schreur

Athena has studied at the Amadeus School of Music, UNLV and the Longy School of Music at Bard College, and has worked with major pop acts and symphony orchestras. Athena is happy to be in Alaska and teaching piano, violin, viola, bass and cello to students of all ages.

Kalen Tyson

Kalen Tyson

Kalen has a music degree from Valley Forge Christian College, is an experienced performer and church music director, and an ardent music educator. Kalen teaches all levels of voice and piano, as well as beginning guitar.

Forest Wilson

Forest WilsonForest studied music at UAA and is a member of the Hannah Yoter Band. He has been teaching music to students of all ages and skill levels for 8 years. Forest teaches acoustic and electric guitar, as well as banjo, bass, mandolin, dobro and ukulele.

Brenna Bellah

Brenna’s piano skills won her a scholarship to Weber State University in Utah, where she performed extensively in both classical and pop styles. She also teaches beginning guitar.

Samantha Krauser

Samantha Krauser

Music is Sam’s passion and she has shared that passion as a private instructor and ensemble leader for over 10 years with students of all ages and abilities, including those with cognitive and developmental disabilities. She teaches voice, piano, guitar, flute, saxophone and clarinet.

Johnnathon Brown

Roger DavidJohnnathon studied music at Cornerstone University and works at Teeland Middle School as a special education assistant. He teaches piano, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, flute and trombone.

Leon Osborne

Matt Brenna Leon is the worship music and youth leader at Matanuska Assembly of God. He is a dedicated and creative educator who has been teaching acoustic and electric guitar, piano, vocals, bass and beginning violin for 6 years.

Cealice Kennison

Cealice has a degree in music from Seattle University and performs with the Matanuska Susitna Orchestra. She teaches piano, violin and cello.

Jerry Wessling

Matt BrennaJerry is a math teacher at Teeland Middle School and director of the Guitar Club there. He teaches acoustic and electric guitar, bass, ukulele and voice in all styles.

Shannon Alarid

Shannon AlaridShannon is a graduate of Central Bible College, father of three, pastor of the Matanuska Assembly of God, and has been a musician since he could hold drum sticks. Shannon teaches drums, electric and acoustic guitar, bass and piano.

Evan Jackson

Matt Brenna Evan teaches violin, viola and cello. He’s the father of two children and has worked as a teaching assistant with the Anchorage School District.

David McCormick

The owner of Valley School of Music, David has been teaching piano and strings longer than he likes to think about.
